Authenticity In Hoong Tho Restaurant, Ipoh

Remember Hoong Toh restaurant in old town? It was considered one of the prestagious restaurant from those days, say around 1960s, if I m not mistaken, it used to hold many chinese weddings there, with their marble tables and wooden polished chairs, Hoong Tho is sort of a heritage restaurant that still serves the evergreen food from those days....

When one of my colleagues suggested going to Hoong Tho for our lunch, I was the first one to "hands up" and "seconded" her choice! It has been few years (I think 2010) since I last stepped into Hoong Tho and I was looking forward to going to that place again for lunch.

Yes, indeed there are some changes to the shop.... now it looks so much more presentable than those years... renovation has taken place, new marble tables I noticed.. but the chairs were pretty much the same...
Now it is so much brighter compared to the last time I went there...
Not many shops have these type of chairs anymore....
Saw an array of desserts at the entrance..
But I didn't order.. restrain... restrain... hahahaa....
But ended up ordering some mini kaya puffs and one coconut tart...
I think they would have tasted better if they were fresh from the oven....
We ordered their famous fried Koay Teow with fresh fish paste... (yee wat)
Very tasty  The "wok hei" was definitely there!
Can opt for the noodles with egg gravy...
Equally great too!
Another signature dish is crispy fried Wan Ton (fried dumplings)
and taken with their specially made tomato sauce....
Since our lunch hour was a short one, we didn't order much... just the noodles and these...
A very satisfying lunch, full to our brim....
We certainly would like to come back again to try their authentic dishes....
Heard that the Big Prawns Noodles is worth trying too!  (Sang Har Mee)
Happy Eating!!

Just in case, you want to try...
