Here We Come Pearl Of The Orient, Penang Island!

My girl requested for a short holiday during her two weeks semester break. She has just finished her exams and it would be nice to go for a weekend getaway to somewhere near. Just a two hours drive from Ipoh to Penang and we started our journey around 10am and reaching Penang island around 2pm...

Beautiful sight to behold...
Didn't realize dark clouds were looming above us... till now....
We went for our lunch straightaway.... 
The Laksa along Gottlieb Road...
Name of the coffeeshop is Taman Emas....
My laksa without the shrimp paste.... 
  
Some side orders which was quickly doubled in no time...
  
Ordered another plate of Fried Koay Teow...  for sharing! 
 
Well, this was just the first round...
After checking into the hotel, we drove out again to Chulia Street.....
 For this Pillow Dumpling!  RM3.50
I like the filling... full of yellow beans!
Then I saw someone eating this at the next table....
I couldn't resist... and I ordered one plate to be shared among three of us....
And "drowned" with a bowl of their Famous Red Bean dessert....
PHEWW......  Full liow!!
Battery recharged... 
and we went forth to visit Penang Time Tunnel.....

  1. Laksa no shrimp paste, where got the same leh? Penang, everything shrimp paste - even their chee cheong fan, fried yam cake...all so nice! Yum! Yum! Ooooo...so long have not eaten Penang char kway teow liao! The ones here not the same, not so nice. :(

  2. Wow, so enjoy. Penang laksa without shrimp paste, how's the taste? Pillow dumpling rice looks too soft (lembik) but I like the red bean dessert.

    1. I don't like my laksa to be so sweet... so I skipped the paste.. I prefer it to be sourish... yes, the dumpling looks lembik but it is not cos of fullness of beans...

  5. I like this assam laksa Taman Emas, small bowl just nice for small eaters like us, hehehe. I like the dumpling too - if soft, I like it even better. Where did you get it at Chulia Street? I thought only you and your daughter went to Penang, who is the 3rd mystery person?

  9. I also doesn't like my laksa with shrimp paste, love that spicy sour kick, if added shrimp paste like no more of that..

    wah wah wah.. first round only so much of makan.. the laksa looks good, the CKT looks good, the yin yong looks good, and oh, that tong sui too!!!

  10. I must have shrimp paste with my asam laksa but my partner had banned it hah..hah... He said it is not good for health lah. Anyway, love all the food you ordered!

    BTW, why did you order without the shrimp paste? Do you have allergies to shellfish or you just don't like it?
