Granada: Discovering The Alhambra And The Tapas.

What comes to mind when you think of Granada? The ancient fortress of the Alhambra, the historical district of the Albaycín, the huge platters of tapas? The city is all of that and much more. Book your hotel in Granada now if you do not want to miss out on all that food and history. Do not forget to take a walk around the city center, visit the cathedral and the nearby churches, and enjoy the city’s fresh air and variety of local food.

Book your tickets to the Alhambra in advance.

Being the city’s most famous landmarks and most visited place, it is to be expected that one needs to book the tickets to the Alhambra in advance. There are several types of tickets, all of which explore the main grounds of the Alhambra, the Generalife gardens and the Nazari Palaces, which are the main feature of this landscape. It is in these palaces that you will find the famous Court of Lions, a large patio decorated with intricate columns and a fountain with stone statues of lions. Take a guided tour around the main halls, which are covered in ceramic tiles, wood latticework and ancient hand-woven tapestries. After that head to the gardens: all of them have plenty of fountains, statues and pools. Do not miss the terraces, which are known for their views towards the rest of the city of Granada.

Spend an afternoon exploring Albaycin.

The district of the Albaycin is located at the foot of the Alhambra. This area, and the neighbouring area of the Sacromonte, are filled with narrow streets lined with traditional, white low houses and patios. This ancient district has a a variety of tapas bars worth exploring. Try gambas al pil pil prawns cooked with garlic and olive oil, a variety of stuffed olives and salmorejo, a traditional cold soup.

Ski in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Who knew that the hot city of Granada, with its ancient architecture and traditions, was a popular skiing destination? There are several skiresorts in Granada, ideal for a break enjoying the snow and a variety of snow sports. Lift passes are affordable, and there are many apartments, chalets and hotels with views towards the mountains in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. There are several green and blue slopes for beginners, and more advanced skiers will be able to ski down the red slopes. The most famous red slope runs from the summit of the Veleta mountain to the village, located more than one kilometer below the mountain top. Do not miss the saunas and restaurants, ideal for some relaxation after a day spent skiing, snowboarding and sleigh-riding in the mountains.
