My Rich Butter Cake Disaster!

BAKING MODE IS ON!! After many years of procrastinating, I finally "dug" up my old oven from the store room.  It had been on sleeping mode for many years now and suddenly came to life when yours truly was in a baking mode all of a sudden.

It actually started when I went to visit a bakery shop to buy a packet of chia seeds, my morning supplements when I wake up each morning.  Browsing through the shelves, I noticed a packet of Butter Cake Mix which consists of flour and sugar separately divided and not only that, a vanilla stick which I saw for the first time in my life.  I quickly made some enquiry about the vanilla seeds inside the stick and feeling curious, I decided to get some baking done on it.  Everything was within reach in the bakery shop... so within minutes, everything I need was being wrapped up and done.
Slowly and steadily, I brought out whatever I need for the cake...
The instructions were on the packet itself, easy to understand....
My fridge has only three eggs... quickly sent SOS and two eggs were delivered within minutes.... (geng leh!)
Since I have a lemon in the fridge, I used half of it to enhance the cake!
OK, LET'S BEAT IT!!
So far, so good.. all the whipping and creaming was done without any hitch...
Into the oven it went... and that was when the real trouble started...
Instead of switching it to the bottom cooking mode, I was kind of "greedy"
And ended up switching it to the Top and Bottom cooking mode...
A DISASTER!!
THE FACE TURNED HALF BLACK!!
Something like the Chinese legend ... "CHOONG MO YUEN??"

Being Reanaclaire, this was what she did to solve the problem....
Start Shaving off the Darkness of the Face...
Does it look better now?
sigh....
Consolation time :  Just look at the side... oh man!
Alright, more consolation?
Turn it upside down...
VIOLA!!!!!
Isn't SHE a BEAUTY!!
My Butter Cake.... oh Wow!!
*Self consolation mode*
Just look at that texture.....
Despite the Black Face, the beauty within shows...
My conclusion....
Soft texture, too-sweet-a-taste that comes with a lemon fragrance...
Sigh..
Do I deserve some claps after all had been said and done?
hahahahaha....

  2. At least, you CAN!!! I wouldn't even dare try! My missus would tell me this cannot, that cannot, the eggs must be this, the butter must be this bla...bla...bla!!! All the taboos scared the living daylights out of me. Maybe something wrong with the oven, since you have not used it for a long time. Other than the top that was a bit burnt and cracked, it actually looked very nice. I sure would love to taste it. *standing applause*

  5. Clap! Clap! Clap! When you turned it upside down, it is such a beauty! Next time you can reduce the amount of sugar if you do not want it to be too sweet. So did you give some of your butter cake to your friends to eat?

  8. Clapping now! I don't know how you turned something so badly burnt into being so pretty! I do not even see any knife marks or cuts! We have the vanilla bean pods here, they are in most shops and you buy a bottle of them. I have never tried them, I use liquid vanilla extract.

    1. Yeah, first time using vanilla beans, the essence is indeed more strong than the seeds.
