Restoran Lan Jie Along Kuala Kangsar Road, Ipoh

WHEN MY FRIEND SUGGESTED GOING OUT FOR DINNER AT LAN JIE, the first thing that came to my mind was the Rawang Famous Steamed Fish restaurant in Simpang Pulai.  But no, it was not that restaurant along the main road in Simpang Pulai.  She told me that this particular restaurant is called Lan Jei and it is along the Kuala Kangsar Road, on the left just before the Kok Thai restaurant if coming from town.

Yes, the original one is called Lan Jie in Rawang... and now this same name Lan Jie (Sister Lan) has opened a branch in Ipoh.  Good for us Ipohians!  But I am Not sure whether this one has any connection to the one in Simpang Pulai.  From my "taste buds" comparing with the two restaurants, I will definitely go for this Lan Jie here along  Kuala Kangsar Road...

This is the restaurant,
just after the Kuala Lumpur highway signboard along the Kuala Kangsar Road..
Initially I "overshot" the place... and had to call up my friend for directions...
Service was fast and good... dishes were being recommended...
Since there were six of us, we ordered three black Tilapia...
Two persons to one fish....
With lots of garnishing... ginger is the main ingredient..
One has to be careful of the small chilies embedded here and there...
The three steamed tilapia came to RM53....
We had omelette with prawns....
Beancurd in egg gravy....
Four angled beans aka Wing Beans...
And for these three fishes and three other dishes,
the bill came to around RM103 with rice and drinks...
This is another place to bookmark for...

  1. THREE fish? Could have ordered something else, prawns, sotong, chicken, duck...etc...and come again next time for the fish, different style.

I think tilapia is cheap here - from the hydro-electricity dam/lakes - ever-flowing water, no mud smell but people kept sharing on Facebook, don't eat tilapia...so I don't buy anymore. :(

  3. I love the fish with lots of ginger! Now that we have our Ipoh Lan Jie steam fish, no need to go all the way to Rawang!
