Weekend Getaway For Pontian Noodles In Pontian

DURING THE WEEKEND, we made a one day trip to Kukup.  We have never been there and I was certainly ALL ready to anticipate this outing.  The guys did some "homework" beforehand, how to go and most important, what to eat on the way.  I just sit back and relax, wherever they lead me, I will go.  :)

We started the journey only after we woke up refreshed and energized and by the time we had our first meal, it was almost noon in Pontian.  Yes, we took a 45 minutes drive all the way to Pontian, a small town which I always hear of but never been.  Mention Pontian, the first thing that came to my mind is the wanton mee, a very common eatery in Johor.  I have tried eating Pontian noodles near my area but there is nothing much to shout about.  But since we are going for the original Pontian wanton mee, I am looking forward to trying the "real thing"....
This is the shop that came up "1st" on the reviews in Google...
Plenty of people... good sign?
While waiting for our orders, we had these side snacks to keep our mouths occupied... \
Otak-Otak is the name.. made of ground fish meat mixed with spices...
My son called it Brain Food... LOL..

Two types of Pontian Noodles here...
Either take it with black sauce....
Or another flavour is mixing it with tomato sauce...
I wanted something different so I ordered this for myself..
Surprisingly, it was not that bad...
At least they tasted so much better than the ones I had before...
*Original is always better, right?*
The noodles are different from Ipoh wanton noodles..
Texture and the taste are different...
More on the Kampua noodles, I would say....
Anyway, it is not cheap... RM5 for a bowl...
and comes with a bowl of three small fishballs and three wantons...
hhmmmm......
Ate and Tarpau-ed some Fish Crackers back....
Soon... we were on our way to Kukup, a tourist spot for both locals and Singaporeans....

  7. The noodles all look so good! I bet your girl would love them, I know noodles are her favorite. Maybe one day you will go with her. What are the green and black stalks, are they involved with the cooking?

    1. Ginny, you have a good memory!! The greenish are the leaves used to wrap up the fish paste... and they are grilled..

  8. They sure look like kampua noodles! Ok with the otak-otak - I prefer Payung's here in Sibu.

  9. My ex boss from Singapore told me that Kukup is full of life at night due to the Singaporeans. They find the food too cheap and so delicious! Good for our economy lah.

I remember that kind of noodles with tomato suace gravy and it's nice! Now where did I eat that?
