Pandan Pancake At Pengkalan 66

YAY!! BACK IN IPOH!!!

Back to "attack" Ipoh food which I have missed for more than nearly two weeks!  LOL...  Okay, slowly does it.  First of all, let me show these photos I have taken in a food court called Pengkalan 66 in Shatin Park.

This is called Apom Balik in Malay, peanut pancake in English and "Tai Kau Meen" in Cantonese.  I have been eating this and it has been one of my childhood favourite dessert!  Those days it was sold at 10 sen for a piece, 20 cents for 3 pieces and now 40 years later, it cost RM1.20 per piece.  Not surprising since so I am now in my fifties and not a kid anymore.  :)
This is the first time buying from this stall at the food court...
Caught him in action doing a new piece of Pandan Pancake....
This type of pancake must be eaten when it is freshly done...
Once cold, it can be quite chewy... and it won't be as good....

Nice timing.... the pancake was just taken out from the hot pan....
And the action begins....
Butter it nice and rich....
Then flood it with lots of peanuts on one side....
And he began to cut it up piece by piece...
I was already salivating by then... hahahahaa...
Just look at that!
Overflowing with peanuts!
Yes, I ate these up.... fresh and hot!

  4. No place like home - that is always the case when I travel, can't wait to get home to enjoy our own local delights. I've heard of people stopping on the way from the airport for a plate of kampua mee...before going home!

My Failed Project In Baking Mini Egg Cakes

FAILED THIS TIME..... I don't know why, I follow exactly the ingredients and the method written in her website but it was not successful.  Something went wrong somewhere but I don't think I want to try it again.  This recipe is called Mini Egg Cake which is supposed to be soft, airy, light sponge cake but the way I made them, they turned out hard and crusty cake.   If I try again one day, I will half the portion... cos I like to eat these traditional egg cakes.... The Ingredients...  No point putting the recipe here since I failed..  LOL...  The portions of this recipe....  It looked very promising when I put them into the oven.... Even when they were in the baking process... they look good, aren't they? LOL...  I was so happy just by looking at the mini egg cakes in the tray....  And after they were let out... my heart sank....  The minute I took them out from the tray, I knew... Hard at the top...  Tak Jadi = Failed.... Now come to t

Our Orders From Afghanistan, Spanish And Australia

My Final post on the Food Festival in the Victoria Market on Wednesday night.... The atmosphere at the market was "enhanced" by the cheerful songs and music by a group band... It was indeed a merry evening filled with music-licous folk songs in the air... . Ok, how to find four seats in this crowd.... hmmmm....... Somehow we managed to... and these were what my boys brought back to our table.... Mexican rice with oysters... or is it Spanish rice?   Both are the same, I guess... LOL.... Afghanistan Food.... chunks of chicken meat with naan.... Brazilian food.... don't ask me what it is.... I just ate what was on the table....  But I am amazed by this giant burger....  ..... and what burger is this? They told me it is Crocodile Tail Burger! Meat from the crocodile tail?  Is it just a name or what... I really don't know... Took a few bites of it... and I am full!! Well, these were the food we

Home Cooked Dishes

NOT MUCH HAPPENING... and lazy too.... My neighbour gave me half pumpkin and I have been keeping it for a couple of days before I finally decide what to do with it.  I cook it into small chunks and sauteed it with minced meat, okra and basil leaves.  Yes, it would be great to put in some small cilipadi but unfortunately, I did not find any in my fridge.  Steamed a bowl of rice and that was meal for dinner.... One dish meal....  Pumpkin reminds me of sweet potatoes...sweet after cooking... Another dinner meal consist of Sambal Fish, black pepper met and a hard boiled egg  I only boiled the egg, the other two dishes were "sponsored" by my neighbour... LOL...
