Lets wait and see, son....

My son had a tete a talk with me last night... he told me a few officials from an established polytechnic in Singapore came to his school and briefed the students about what they have to offer...and my son was fascinated with the slides they put on for the students, the polytechnic was so beautiful and wonderful, so he said......

now the bombshell...

Serious note. ... "Can mum afford it?" he asked...

oh ..oh... Quickly, mentally, I did some rough figures..FIGURES... in my head... how much fees per year?? $sg3, 700/yearly fees....food and lodging $sg1,000 per month perhaps?? And the TOTAL approximately will be $15,000/yearly...and with the foreign exchange rate, it might come to around RM90K for 3 years!!
alamak...
I didnt give him an answer, I need an answer myself... do I have to sell my present house to stay with my mum, do I have to sell my car and buy a smaller one.... do I have to refrain from good food, do I have to get an extra job maybe??...do I, do I......etc etc......
Well, son, let me do more calculations first.... lets wait and see, meanwhile, PLEASE study well and lets pray for a scholarship blessing......

  6. Hello Reanaclaire, Hope your son gets his wishes...and the scholarship.
By the way, maybe he can apply for scholarships in USA, Canada? If his results are above average, might be worth checking it out....
Here's wishing you and son the best of everything. Keep well and have a great week, Lee.
    Ps, love your beautiful callsign.

  11. Hi Claire,

I bite the bullet and send my three daughters to UK to study medic all on fama scholarship. I have conditions for them: 1. failure is not an option; 2. they must cook their own food; 3. They will not come back home for holiday until they graduate in 5 years time or if they choose elective in this part of the world, whichever comes first; 4. They need to work part time during the first 3 years; 5. They need to work during the holidays; 6. They can travel to anywhere to see the world as long as they earn their own money; 7. They must be holy and attend church and cg; 8. They need to help us support my other children when they graduate.

Hahaha... so many conditions. So far so good. They have gone to certain part of Europe using their own $$, they have gone all over UK as well.

ok, it doesn't seem to answer your question. My point is that we need to stress our children a little in order for them to mature, grow up and be independent. He needs to find some part time work if possible to help with the expenses. Then of course, study hard and get "discount". I understand that the fees you mention may not be the end of the story. Probably there are conditions attached for "discount" but should not be a problem.

I don't know what I say above is applicable to Singapore.

  15. As long as he can study, anywhere also can la. No need to stress. If it's too expensive, can always study locally and then go abroad for work, if he wants. There's the locals Us, locals polys offering Diploma programs like like Sg Poly, privates like TAR College... Not necessary have to go to SG.

  16. of course there are many locals U over here, sg is definitely a bit too high for me...will think of the issue again when he has sat for his exams..dont want to think so much now..still a few more months to go anyway...
