Once Upon A Time...

I WONDER HOW MANY OF US can still remember what games and words we used to tease one another....

As for me during my time, when a kid pulled down his/her panty to pee or was "unclothed", these teasing words would be directed at the poor kid....... "wooley wooley ka chat, ah por sang yat....." repeating and repeating them over and over again till he/she finished the process of peeing or covering back their bodies.

And for those naughty kids who couldn't sit still, always jumping up and down and when they fell or injured themselves, these words could be heard...... "tai sei, veli good, tai sei, veli gooood." (meaning good, deserve to die, good, good). Sounds so cruel leh, huh? My goodness, that time, didnt really understand the deep meaning of it all... Thank God, kids nowadays don't actually tease with these cantonese words anymore...

When it comes to games, to choose a best player, we would turned our palms while singing... "la la li li lap tum bum.... sik farn ngmm sai soong...ah ma tar ngo ngmm toong... ah ba tar ngo chow san toong" (meaning eat rice without dishes, mother cane me no pain, father cane me whole body pain) ...

And when 2 players were left, one would hide the hand behind the back and simultaneously take the hand out after saying... "Jeli, jeli, one, two, Soom" ..Oh, there were signs of bird, stone or water represented by the palm well, for chinese malaysians, I think you should know what I mean. (i hope i get the rythm correct, it sounded so far away)

Well, thanks to Gooly blogger who reminded me of tai sei veli good in her blog, the others just came across my mind. I m sure there are many other "unheard of" words we used to say during the once upon a time....

  1. I had a classmate who peed in the classroom. Of course boys would tease these poor classmate.

The worst tease that I've seen at that time is one that attacks a person's roots - like realizing that a person is a member of a native tribe. They are often misunderstood.

  2. Teasing from small can either damage one psychologically and it might have adverse effects on him/her later. Depending on how strong their character are...but generally, as kids, it comes and goes before even he knows it. Anyway, there should always be a limit to how far the teasing goes...

  3. Reading your blog brings back childhood memories especially the game of "la la li li lap tum bum".

No matter how old we are, this type of games plus plenty more (the good thing is these games doesn't cost much) still leave fond memories in our heart.

Btw ... I will refer to your blog for reference whenever I need to find food in Ipoh...it is very informative.
