"Chilling Out" In Free School Food Court, Penang

It was a very hot Sunday and I felt like "burning" in my body... so thirsty after taking the Balik Pulau durians... maybe got "MSG" in them... hahahahaa...

My friend and I drove back to town and we landed in our favourite hangout, that is the Free School Garden food court.
A very "hot" place to chill out here.. cos lots of food sold in this food court...
The first one caught my attention...
Nutmeg Juice...
First time tasting it...
Very quenching....
But one glass is not enough for me...
I ordered a waterchestnut drink as well.....
and my friend ordered Ice Kacang
which is not so quenching but with lots of "ingredients"
We shared a bowl of Glassnoodles...
Cos we were still very "Durian-full.....
By the way, does anyone know what fruit these are?
They are not duku langsat....
Are they Pulasan?
I should have bought some and try...

  1. not pulasan... Pulasan looks like rambutan, with coarser hairs... this looks like buah setoi/sentol

  7. You nearly make me fall off my chair, hahaha...durian got MSG. Maybe the ones planted by you. I think the sweetness of the durians makes you thirsty. I like buah kendodong to nutmeg drinks. Doesn't nutmeg has a type of smell. Anyway, it looks so refreshing to quench your thirst in this hot day. That fruit belongs to the langsat family, maybe langsat susu.

    1. Yes, I think the sweetness made me thirst for two glasses of water... they quenched my thirst after that... Nutmeg has its bittersweet taste...

  8. Is this the school canteen or some place near the school using the name? Was at Bukit Bintang Boys' in KL in 1986, so surprised the canteen had stalls...like in a food court. Nothing like that here.

    1. No, it is a food court not a canteen.. but the Freeschool is nearby... perhaps that is how they got the name.. or perhaps it is near to the residential garden...

  11. Hmm, why not Ambra juice, that one is more effective for cooling down, as far as I know :P
I never go to this food court before, usually when we go to the Free School area, it is either my mates looking for laksa, or we all looking for authentic Korean food. There a Korean restaurant there that is run by a Korean auntie.

    2. Nah... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penang_Free_School
It is a school name lah, it was supposed to be the first school in Penang that founded to allow all race and religion students to join. I think back then all the schools were only for the elite and royal Malays.

  15. Wow, you are really thirsty to drink two glasses of drinks. I have never been to this food court in Free School area. Next time I go Penang, must go there to eat what Claire ate. :)

  16. I have eaten the fruit. It is very sweet. I was told it is Duku but not langsat. I know langsat, duku or longkong are quite similar. Langsat is smaller than duku. I found through googling that one can tell the which is which by the leaves on their trees.
