In The Steps of the Silver Screen: New York Destinations For TV Lovers

When it comes to TV shows set in America, they tend to be in one of two places. Sure, there are variations - Breaking Bad takes us to New Mexico, while Grey's Anatomy makes Seattle a feature. But for the most part, they're set in California or New York.

Often, the setting is a big part of the show. California shows are more out of necessity, with so many established ways of filming in the state. New York, however, tends to be used to reflect metropolitan, busy and confusing lives - and it's all the better for it. Besides the shows, music entertainment is everywhere along the streets, mastering software are utilized for those who love music.

A holiday to New York is on many people's bucket lists, so perhaps there is a way of combining the two? Your love of your favourite shows with one of the world's most dynamic cities. If you want to walk in your favourite character's footsteps, you're only a plane ride away.

Once Upon A Time: ChinaTown

ChinaTown is worth a visit anyway for its bustling beauty, but it has extra significance for OUAT fans. The character of The Dragon was introduced in season two but made a spectacular comeback at the climax to season five. He now owns a shop in ChinaTown, which is visited by fan favourites Regina and Gold. See the area for yourself and explore the stalls and shops offering something truly unique.

Gossip Girl: Take To The Skies

Many pivotal moments of Gossip Girl involved moments before or after a helicopter journey. In season two's conclusion, Chuck leaves Blair waiting for him, a lonely figure at the helipad. It's also where, later on, Nate realises his new love interest is a member of a rival family. Grab a touch of luxury and wealth for yourself with helicopter rides in NYC, all possible even without the trust fund of the characters.

Sex and The City: Yankee Stadium and/or Fifth Avenue

Fresh from a breakup (well, one of the breakups) with Mr Big, the season two premiere sees the four main characters get their sporting fix. Miranda, a devout Yankees fan, is irritated by her friends as they while away an afternoon at a ballgame. Baseball is often referred to as America's pastime, so if you truly want your holiday to reflect America life, it's a good place to start.

If that's not quite your style, then nothing says Sex and The City like shopping. To recount the episodes that involve luxury high-end shopping would take the rest of the year, but start on Fifth Avenue and explore. Just be careful not to lose control of your credit card trying to keep up with the fashionable foursome!

White Collar: Art Galleries and Museums

White Collar featured around former (and some would argue, continued) art fraudster Neal Caffrey and his FBI handler, Peter. As a result, much of the show is themed around the art galleries they investigate. One particular stand out is the MoMA PS1 on Long Island, which was used as the setting for the fictional Hellerman Gallery in season four.

There is plenty more besides, so why not see which of your favourite characters you can share a New York experience with?

  2. My cousin flew to NY to see Adele live, Madison SG. The long haul flight scares me. I think I'll have to give it a miss.
