Hawaii Desserts Teluk Intan

FROM BAGAN DATUK, we drove back to Teluk Intan, everyone of us agreed to have some sweet moments in Hawaii!

Hawaii or Hawayi got its name from a local vendor selling desserts since 1980s, a favourite hangout for students during that time.  Now it has become an icon of Teluk Intan and one must not leave the place without tasting the local delights such as Laksa and Air Batu Campur aka ABC or Ice Kacang....

Since we were still full from our seafood platter, we just wanted some desserts to make our day complete.  LOL....

Standing in front of the first shop....
and it has extended to another shop next door...
The memoirs from the very start of how Hawaii came about....
We ordered a plate of rojak...
Very different from Ipoh....
Instead of peanuts, the toppings are fried yau char koay if I am not mistaken...
4
These ABC are to our liking...
Creamy with fresh Gula Melaka (brown palm sugar)
Desserts and drinks before our next destination....
Gopeng!

Food Roundup in Teluk Intan

ROUNDING UP....

From Leaning Tower, we drove a bit further down the road to Wang Kee Bak Kut Teh for our proper lunch.  We were half full by then but we still have space for these three dishes.  When we requested for no rice, we could see the server's surprised look on her face.  LOL... All we wanted is to taste the food here since it was recommended by a friend of ours....
We ordered a small claypot of Bak Kut Teh....
Followed by the Braised Fish...
By now I have learn how to eat without going with rice...
Years before 2018, I really could not eat just the dishes like that....
A plate of greens to go with this set....
Total cost around RM50 plus....
After our lunch we walked around a bit to look for their local biscuits...
It was almost 3pm when we made our last call at this place....
We came here before last few years....
I ordered Rojak Asing...
I thought the sauce would be separately served... I was wrong!
Rojak Asing means Take Away...
We ordered a small portion to try...
Different from the Ipoh version...
This type of Rojak sauce is not as sweet as those in Ipoh...
Desserts after lunch...
Last and not least, these is the main attraction....
The Chee Cheong Fun Teluk Intan style!!
We ended up buying 10 packets home!

From Hawaii To The Leaning Tower, Teluk Intan

FROM HAWAII... we walked back to the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan...

A very hot day, we really sweated out and burned a lot of calories under the hot sun.  That is self consolation, giving me an excuse to eat again an hour later after the Hawaii treats here below.
Before we left the shop....
We walked all the way back to this Leaning Tower here...
Visiting time as written above...
Entrance is free but before we entered, we registered ourselves...
Hanging on the walls are the history and information....
We climbed up and up the stairs to the highest....
All the way UP and UP...
And we could feel the tilting of the tower at certain angles when we walked on it...
Swaying to one side.... kind of an experience...
So how many steps did we climb?
It is more than a hundred over...
Then it is time to go again for our second round of Food in Teluk Intan...

A Visit To Hawaii in Teluk Intan

A DAY TRIP TO THE BAY...  Teluk Intan, here we come!

A few of us planned to go to this bay area called Teluk Intan, it is quite far from Ipoh cos there is no highway leading to this town.  We took about two hours to reach, passing by smaller towns and padi fields.  My last visit was a few years back before I retire, I came for official duty with a few of my colleagues for auditing.  Now a few years later, I am back again....

Teluk Intan is the third largest town in Perak and the main attraction is their own Leaning Tower erected in 1885 by a Chinese builder.  It is called the Leaning Tower because it started to tilt four years after its construction due to an underground stream.  Since then, it has become the icon of Teluk Intan.... something similar to Leaning Tower in Italy....
The Leaning Tower... aka Clock Tower...
We parked our car nearby and walked around the vicinity...
Firstly... to look for Food!
Recommended by one of the locals.... Hawaii is the name of the shop...
Hawaii... exotic food and colourful desserts!
A place for all races...
We opted for the cooling air inside the shop instead of the sidewalk...
While waiting for the food!
We shared a bowl of Laksa...
A bowl of curry noodles....
And their special Rojak as well...
Something different from those sold in Ipoh!
Something cooling for me...
A mixed bowl of fruits to share...
Yes, food for the Trio...
Something light for the first round...

Ah Chai's Rojak And Leaning Tower Of Teluk Intan

FROM GOPENG WE DROVE ON TO TELUK INTAN... But before we did, I quickly logged in to safari and keyed in "what's famous food in Teluk Intan." First thing on the list is Ah Chai Rojak!  Oh, I never heard of that and since we were still full, a plate of rojak sounds more than Great!

Then using Waze, we adjourned to Teluk Intan, Ah Chai Rojak, just keyed in that and the beautiful Voice from the handphone started to give us verbal directions.  Frankly speaking, this is the first time I have to really look at Waze... *previous times, I depended on my kids!*  And it was actually quite easy to use and to understand, for first time auntie user like me..... ahemmmm....

It was more than an hour journey to Teluk Intan...
Along the way we passed by some padi fields....
Weather was quite cloudy....
And finally.....
We reached Ah Chai Rojak after some turnings lefts and rights...
The crowd was already there...
And we made our way into the stall...
And patiently waited for our turn....
Opted for sour plum to quench my thirst while waiting...
And Ah Chai's Rojak was served....
Just a short wait.. ten to fifteen minutes...
Very generous with their peanuts and gravy....
From the rojak stall, we drove to the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan...
Is it slanting leftward?
Not very obvious but it is a fact....
My second time to the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan...

To Gopeng For Good Coffee, Porridge And Chicken

STARTED OFF THE DAY going to Gopeng for brunch.  It is an half hour journey from Ipoh to Gopeng, since we had a late start, we reached Gopeng market around 11.45am.  I was kind of worried that what we wanted would be sold out by then.  Quickly we parked our car nearby and walked quickly to the stall that served our the good food.  Yes, our first meal of the day started off by eating porridge with steamed chicken.  It was my second time there and this round, we waited for nearly half hour before we got our meal served.... one needs to be very patient over here...
Coffee served like this while waiting for the "chicken" to arrive....
The coffee was very "authentic"...
I am not a coffee lover but one sip, I know it is the real one!
Just like the good old days....
As for me, I ordered a bowl of thick barley gingko to cool down...
Half hour later... the porridge and the steamed chicken were served...
It was done meticulously by the elderly man....
Don't rush him, both brother and sister might not like it....
Just sit down patiently and wait to be served...
And one will not regret...
For the plate of chicken with two bowls of porridge, we were charged only RM12!!
This is one of the reason that we must be Very Patient...
hehehehe...
After our brunch, we thought of going back to Ipoh...
Then....somehow... we ended up going this way....
Yes, To Teluk Intan!
