Happy Deepavali And Kampar Curry Bread

Happy Deepavali to all Hindus...

As for me and my friends, we celebrated our "public holiday" by driving a 45 minutes journey to Kampar.... for Lunch!

We were not sure of which shop to go to... ended up in Kam Ling Restaurant...

behind the Main Road...

it was quite empty when we entered..
only two tables were occupied ...

happily we settled down there and ordered our food..
after waiting for half hour,
no food came out at all.....
the other customers from the two tables left in a huff!
Feeling something very wrong, we also left after paying for our drinks!

Later we found out that there was a crowd in the same restaurant
but situated next door only!

a Posh-er Kam Ling Restaurant...
It was crowded inside... no wonder they had no time to serve us!

We were very hungry by then...
and we ended up in Yau Kee Restaurant instead...

just along the same road with Kam Ling Restaurant...

2 shop lots, one with air con and one without....

they sell assorted biscuits....

and of course their popular and famous Curry Chicken Bread!

we ordered a "S" size one... for 3 of us...

within 5 minutes, this was led on the table...
and being "operated on" too....

done by the waitress... not us!

this is the way of cutting up their Curry Bread...

There it goes... finally......
the curry chicken was still hot inside the bread...

we were so hungry...that it was finished within minutes!

Feeling notfull enough, we ordered another plate of
fried yee mee, their signature dish..
but unfortunately, it was too "saltish"
we commented about it to the "captain"
and they "re-cook" them again...
but then, it has no more "oomph" when it was served...

For these two dishes, it cost RM40.60 ($13.00usd)
which I think is overpriced.... definitely...

tomorrow.... round the town....

  1. I love that curry bread. Had it at Red Garden in Penang...and a bakery in Bintulu used to make - smaller, RM10 only but long ago. Dunno still selling or not. In Penang, RM15 like that, can't remember.

  2. Maybe they charged you for TWO plates of mee, RM10 each...and the bread RM20.00. The mee looks like Sibu Foochow style fried mee.

  3. so nice, it's just 45 minutes away.. i've only been there once for the bread chicken.. haha!! but then i think those assortment of biscuits is more attractive to me leh~~ :p

  4. I'm so hungry now Claire....

Me just came back from a day trip from Penang but no photos at all, haha :P

  5. Wow....the bread looks delish! Man...I'm craving for it now. Haha... btw, thanks for dropping by my blog.

  6. stp: this one cost 28rm i think.. smallest one.. eat once enough la.. very filling! yeah, maybe they charge 10rm for the plate.. or 2 plates..gosh..

sk: i didnt buy the biscuits.. though they look good cos i was already very full..

hayley: so nice.. taiping to penang is just less than an hour, right?

  7. something special on the way they serve the curry are not cheap nowadays..the curry must be the expensive one.

  8. what a shame that the food did not come! i remember once kam ling was famous for its mooncakes but not anymore i think!

  9. I took away on small sized chicken curry loaf and paid more than RM20 for the loaf. That was 7 years ago. I think it's natural for them to charge more after so many years. If you come to Taiping Son Lee restaurant for their prawn curry loaf, expect to pay more than RM30 for one which is much smaller than the loaf you had.

  11. wabbitfoot: thanks for dropping by too..

agnes: i think must be 28rm...not cheap.. hahaha..

lena: i think now more commercialized for those tour buses..big restaurant like a hotel, i was very amazed..

pam: wow..prawn curry? must try! :)

  12. That chicken curry bread looks delicious. Unusual for me, as I have never seen such a thing.

  13. Is it better than Ipoh curry chicken bread?

  14. The price is not too bad, everything is so big and so much. I have never seen bread like this, it is amazing!!!! It must have tasted really, really good!!! The noodles look great, too!! The first place looked kind of fancy, but it was not right you had to wait so long, they should have warned you and let you decide whether to stay or leave, not have let you waste a half hour!,

  15. Gosh why would they be discriminatory since all who go into either restaurant are clients? Dishes more expensive in the air-conditioned side?

I have similar liking as SK; the traditional biscuits 3e simply to die for! :)

  16. I dont know why but I always end up early in the morning to your blog with foods in it...

Haha at least you enjoyed your holiday! woohooo! Hungry =x

  17. Now that is something that I really love to eat, curry chicken bread, that reminds me of my younger day, see we were poor then,so sometimes or a lot of times we would buy those curry (ok without the meat) and whole loaf of bread, and that's all tree meals for the day............that's why I love my curry chicken bread,(minus the chicken)

  18. Oh my gosh... Kamling curry Bread Chicken, marked! This looks so delicious, curry matches pretty well with chiken and bread, yum!

  19. gigi: asian food has lots of "designs".. hahaha..

wenn: i think the yau kee in ipoh has closed down?

ginny: yes, they should have told us guests that they had a busy schedule...

    o'senorita: thanks for coming by..

daniel: sorry to tempt u! :p

eugene: yes, yes.. those days, eating chicken were only for festive days, ya? nowadays, everyday also can.. so much so, they are not special anymore..

alice: either kam ling or yau kee is ok... same same.. :)

  20. wow.. that's special! Have never tried anything like that...

  21. You must have gone when there's a wedding lunch or something next door. Kam Ling's miles better than Yau Kee, in my opinion.

  22. Ah, i remember, i been to Yau Kee once many many years ago when i visit Kampar. Love the curry chicken bread! We even ta pow back to KL. hahahha

  23. merryn: then u must try...

james: no, there was no wedding or any special function.. i went by to look see... but now we know that we should sit in the posh restaurant and not in the old shop... since u mentioned Kam Ling is better, then must try...

annie: heard Yau Kee is the original one which started the curry bread...

  24. here the Indians call the festival Devali.

That last noodle dish is delicious.

Have you looked into my Reader's digest contest?

  25. yikes!! overpriced!! =S ipoh food also getting more expensive!! T3T

  26. hometown leh...and honestly I have only tried the Yau Kee curry chicken once...hahahaha...and I think the last time I was in Kam ling was 22 years ago !!!!!

  27. ann: i will go now.. thanks!

eric: kampar la.. not ipoh.. lain tempat.. :p

daddy: gosh.. now no more your hometown then! :)

  28. eh size S also quite big wor...Not over price la...The yee mee already RM15 gua

  29. The curry bread looks yummy, but both the dishes were slightly overpriced.

GETTING HEALED AGAIN... this time four of us went to August Healing for other sweet and savoury delights.  This time when we went up to the little cafe, the tables were all occupied except for one.  Next time we must not go during lunch time.  Mistake....  Anyway, we managed to get a table near the window while waiting for another two of my friends to arrive.  First time visit for them and I hope they like the food there as much as I like them.  We ordered three different varieties to share as we had a heavy breakfast in the morning....  Which shall I choose? Berries bread pudding today....  Forgot what this is called....  Garlic honey scones...  Coffee for my friends.... As for me, I had Chamomile tea....  We ordered one croissant to share.... Smoked duck and omelette fillings... Full to the brim... RM15....  Quiche again.... different fillings this time... RM15 And a Happy Birthday piece of cheese cake... RM14.. Though just a few varieties, we were very full.... For dinner, I just ha

Two Dishes One Soup Dinner

AUNTIE'S SIMPLE COOKING... for dinner on one evening.... Defrosted a piece of cod, my last piece in the freezer besides another few more pieces of other types of fish.  I think I consume the most fish this year, never bought so many types of fish before.  Maybe it is made easier for me this year cos of the online shopping at Gracious, cleaned, vacuumed and free delivery above RM50.   My last piece of cod.... A plate of greens called Yau Mak...  Not so sure what it is called in English And chicken herbal soup....  My complete meal for one evening....  As usual, I do not take much rice... Or perhaps I did not take rice at all for this meal....  LOL...

Freshly Baked With Love From Breadlady

BUNS AND PIES... freshly baked with Love.... printed on a brown paper bag, delivered by her handsome son right to my doorstep!  LOL.... Saw it on Facebook, one of my friends put up the fresh curry buns she ordered.  Yours truly saw and salivated and the next thing, I have the details I needed.  During the weekdays, the Breadlady has different kinds of buns and on Saturdays, she makes shepherd pies.  Since I got the details on Friday, I quickly messaged her and ordered 5 packets!  No, I did not eat them all, I ordered for my friends too, they have the same common interest as I do.  LOL...  ' Each set of shepherd pie comes with 2 fresh buns costing RM15.   I like her packing.... Brown paper bag with this slogan... Freshly baked with love...  The pies were still warm when they were delivered to right to  my doorstep with no extra charge... So nice! This was my lunch on Saturday.... I like the buns too...fresh and soft... One is filled with cranberries and apple.. And the other one is
