An Oil-less Homecooked Meal In Melbourne

With only a bottle of table salt, how nice can our meal turn out to be? LOL...

We went to an Asian supermarket to buy a packet of noodles and a bottle of salt. I didn't buy any oyster sauce or something similar cos we are not going to stay a long time and I don't want to waste the spices. Instead I bought a packet of tomyam packet to cook it on the noodles.. and this is what we came up with for our evening meal.

Oh, this meal is without oil as well... that also I want to save money on buying oil just for one or two meals.  LOL....

First I steamed the giant fresh scallops...with the sauce that came out from the scallolps, I used it to fry the noodles and added in some giant prawns.

Then I used the tomyam paste to fry the remainder of the noodles with green vegetables...

My girl pan fried the salmon.... without oil.... with a non stick pan, it is not so much a mess.. hahaha...

Lastly, I blanched the cauliflower and broccoli and stir fry them with the scallops and prawns.... put in some water and let it stew for awhile...
And ta....da....our lunch is born!  LOL...

  3. Yes, yes, cut down on oil, leave out salt and msg...you'll be surprised what wonderful tastes and flavours you will begin to sense - all used to be drowned out before by all the seasonings used.

  6. Healthy meal. Very good move to use the water from steaming the scallops to fry the noodles. Taste of seafood goodness. There should be a little oil coming out from the salmon. Sometimes I just put a chicken thigh with skin on into a wok without any oil and covered it and just cook it like that and when I open the cover the chicken thigh would be covered in its own oil. No need to buy oil at all.

  10. So interesting to cook something Asian away from home. I used to buy ready mixed sauces and cooked for the Americans in USA. They loved it and praised me as excellent chef! LOL.... They didn't know I poured all the sauces direct from sachets and bottles - no cooking skills!
