My Delights In Penang Food Courts

MANY OF MY FRIENDS ASKED ME WHY I AM OFTEN IN PENANG...  Just a few reasons and one of the most reasonable and practical one is the Food!  I do not go to fancy restaurants in Penang, in fact I think I have not been to a high posh Chinese restaurant in Penang before, I am always frequenting the ones that I eat and eat again each time I go there.  Food that suit my taste buds despite having to sweat and "sniff" due to the hot weather and hot chillies!  hahahaa...

Now I am back home and as my food folder discloses all these pictures, all I have tasted before I came back.  Looking at these pictures, it is not surprising I will be back there again very soon.  Like Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous line in the Terminator says...... "I WILL BE BACK..."
Taken in Lye Lee @ Terrace Plus, Bayan Lepas
Clear soup Fish Mihoon
Small portion of Penang Lobak....
This was bought in Jelutong market... a Teochew snack, I was told...
And the tasty Kuehkak stall around the vicinity in Jelutong...
Sizzling noodles at the Relau food court opposite Pisa Arena...
where I saw the ex-national badminton player named Choong Tak Fook...
Who remembers him?  He partnered Lee Wan Wah then...
My regret is not taking a picture together with him...  :)
I like their koayteow with mihoon...  no egg gravy so not so filling...
Freshly steamed Potato bun with brown sugar.... steaming hot and nice!
Steamed White tapioca... not so sweet... fine with me!
Well, what is this called?
I called it "woon chai koe" with grated coconut.....
Then I had pan mee at a drive-in market in Yee Hong, Bayan Lepas...
And the Penang signature noodles... Koay Teow Th'ng....

And that is about all...
Few days that is all we need...
Our foodie trip came to an end...
Till the next trip, I hope it will be very soon!!

  1. I would go for the hawker delights when in Penang - the ones in KL are not so nice anymore unless you know where to go as many of the stalls are manned by migrants and that makes a world of difference especially when the bosses are not even around to keep an eye on everything.

    1. I think every state has the same problem, that is why I look for those food stalls that are manned by locals..

  4. Choong Tan Fook lah... hahaha! I remember him, he is a very versatile player, I remember he once played in the first doubles and then the third singles in one of the Thomas Cup because our singles player was injured. I think he was here for the Malaysian Masters...

Eh those kuihs, cannot get in Ipoh meh?

  5. I wanna eat that Clear soup Fish Mihoon. Where did you eat that? I like "woon chai koe" too. I am like that too - when in Penang, will not eat at expensive restaurants. I guess you will be going to Penang quite often since your girl is there now.

Reunion At Museum Restaurant At Starling Mall

CLASSMATES REUNION... but not from my year.  i just tagged along with my sister who wanted my company that evening.  She was going to meet up with some of her classmates at The Starling mall.  I did not want to drive there, taking Grab is a much easier and practical choice, considering it was rush hour in the evening.  Furthermore, I am not familiar with the roads... both of us might panic on the federal highway.  LOL...
Having someone to take us there is so stress free, we only have to pay RM20 for the ride.  :)  Our first time to Startling Mall and being made familiar by one of the bloggers, Phong Hong who used to post up her lunch meals taken from there.  We were supposed to meet up at 7pm but we reached there an hour earlier to "survey" the shops and ended up buying a "bit."  Blame it on my sister who always like to give positive comments most of the time!   The dinner was held at The Museum.... Originated from Ipoh actually and how there is a branch here in …

Caring And Sharing At Limestone, Regal Lodge, Ipoh

IMPROMPTU GATHERING.... Nothing was planned beforehand, it was only at the last minute that we received call to have lunch at Limestone Cafe, inside Regal Lodge.  It was my first time there to have set lunch.  The menu prices were reasonable, around RM15.90 for the main dish, RM3 for a bowl of soup and RM2 for ice cream.  Other than that, coffee, tea and soft drinks are free.
We were there not so much for the food but for the ambiance... we practically had the whole cafe to ourselves during that lunch hour.  Only one or two tables were occupied and we spent more than two hours there since it was a Friday long hour lunch for my working colleagues.  After a few months absence from me, it was wonderful to catch up with my ex-colleagues again!
I was super hungry by lunch time and I felt like eating almost anything in the menu. We ended up ordering one main dish each and then sharing them with one another so that we could taste a bit of this and that.....
I felt like eating Aglio Oli…

Famous Wanton Mee At New Hoong Kee, Bandar Sri Damansara

BREAKFAST FEAST..  Best meal of the day is always my first meal because I know I am able to tuck in as much as my stomach can accept.  I eat a lot in the mornings and then slowly dwindle by the end of the day.  As the saying goes, eat like a king in the morning and like a pauper in the evenings.  This is what I normally do nowadays, not because I wanted to, but it is my own body system that tune me this way.  Though I deny I am old but the body says otherwise... LOL...

On this morning, we went to New Hoong Kee in Bandar Sri Damansara, my sibling said this is currently his favourite place.  And after trying, I know why.... the food we ordered, all turned out good and tasty, even the curry reminded me of my good old days!
Managed to catch the name otherwise I wouldn't be able to tell this story now...  My type of curry... I can go without the chicken... Just the other ingredients will do fine for me.. I like the way they cook this curry... Heard the BBQ pork is tasty too... melt in …
