Xiang Ji Jonker Satay In Melaka

SINCE WE WERE STILL FULL FROM OUR BUFFET BREAKFAST AT THE HOTEL, our friends took us for a light lunch at a non-halal Satay shop called Xiang Ji.  It is located at 50, Jalan Portugis, very near to Jonker Street and just opposite SRJK Pay Teck, a chinese school.  I have never tasted pork satay before, only seen in Facebook people queuing up for the celup satay.  No, I did not go to that... boiling sauce and all that.  My friends took us for these instead....
A very modest shop along Portugis Street...
Thank goodness no crowd cos of the off peak season...
Preparations were being made as we entered...
The sauce is kind of special.. a bit of sweet and sour...
Heard that it is made from either pineapple or "belimbing".... not sure...
And we replenish the sauce several times...
First round 30 sticks of satay.. followed by another 20 sticks....
Chicken and pork satays...
They are very thinly marinated... can eat them without the sauce too...
The meat is tender and I like them cos they are not oily...
Again, our friends gave us the treat so I don't know exactly how much they cost...
Oh, we had Muar Otak-Otak as well...
By then I could not eat much, just one piece only...
And I dipped it into the satay sauce as well....
After our supposedly light lunch, we went for desserts...
My son wanted to get some stuff from Tan Kim Hock ....
The Melaka Tree in front of the building...
And since we were there, we tried their Cendol...
It was supposed to be Durian Cendol but it was not fresh durian...
More like the Dodol mixture...
And my son said Penang cendol is still the best!
hahhhaa...
Soon it was 2pm or so, it is time to bade goodbye to our Malacca Friends...
They dropped us back at our hotel and from there, we parted and went our separate ways....
Really thanked them for their friendliness, generosity and hospitality....
Hope we meet again soon, either in Ipoh, Malacca or Aberdeen!

  1. I like pork satay. And lamb satay as well. Better than beef and chicken which could be pretty tough sometimes. As long as they have those fat in the pork and lamb satays, I could eat many sticks! hehehe!

Ooh, Melaka cendol. Glad I had my dose of Melaka cendol last week. There is an authentic Melaka food outlet over here, so I could have my dose of cendol whenever I want. Post is coming up soon.

  3. Eyewwwwww!!! Tan Kim Hock, no, thank you. Over-commercialised, it has lost its appeal already, not so nice anymore.

    2. No no, proper satay. Immediately I can think of BB cafe (opposite the Sunshine pasar pagi, adjacent to Subway) during lunch time, and in Teluk Kumbar, at here: http://www.realgunner.com/2014/11/restoran-teluk-kumbar-seafood.html
