Fun At The Crathes Castle

THE NEXT DAY COMES A BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY....

This time Aaron drove us to visit Crathes Castle.  We have to visit this castle on behalf of my brother-in-law who informed us that it once belonged to his Scottish ancestors.  We have to go and take plenty of pictures for him to see, and having doing so, he is now making plans to fly over next year!  Well, I guess I have to come over again next year?  Lol.... Just a thought.... Thinking of the long flightmakes me  shudder....

Coming back to the Crathes castle, it is about 45 minutes drive to the east of Banchory in the Aberdeenshire  countryside.  This late 16th century castle, with connections to King Robert the Bruce, provides a memorable experience with its towers, turrets and stories of its resident ghosts. King Robert the Bruce granted the lands of Leys to the Burnett family in 1323: the ancient Horn of Leys, which can be seen today in the Great Hall, marks his gift.  The castle, built in the second half of the 16th century, is a superb example of a tower house of the period. Some of the rooms still retain their original painted ceilings and collections of family portraits and furniture.

I am not sure whether I came here on wheelchair last year but I remember coming here before a couple of years ago.  Hhmmm.... Short memory.....Anyway, for my girl, she was really fascinated by the scenery and landscaping, so much so, she did some "jumps" and "running around" just like a small kid....
At the junction leading to the Crathes Castle....
Part of the front portion...
The verticle section...

The beautiful lanscaping at the gardens...
Feeling like a kid again....
Entrance to the humble castle....
Jumping Joys...
Took some action....
And stunts...
I wish I could jump again... This is the most I could do for now....
Maybe next year I could do some jumps!

  7. The vertical section of the castle appear to be of different periods. It is a rather unusual shape.
