A Hakka Meal Called Lui Char At Bukit Indah, Johor

ONE FINE MORNING, we went for a Hakka meal called Lui Char..

Before I go on, "morning" in Johor means it is around 11am, so my breakfast is not breakfast and it is not lunch, thus the word brunch is the right word to emphasize the first meal of the day.

I don't know when my girl has a great liking for Lui Char all of a sudden... whenever we are in JB, she wants Lui Char.. Lui Char... and most times we go Taman Pelangi for that.  But this time we found one nearer to our home, the shop is at Jalan Indah 16/4, Bukit Indah, just opposite the Terengganu Curry Fish noodles.  It must be newly opened for we did not notice this shop before and now someone is glad that she can come here for her Lui Char whenever she feels like it.

A few tables were already occupied when we went in... and by the time we finished our meal, the tables were all occupied... That shows either the food is good or many of us now like Lui Char and that includes my son and my girl.  For me, just so-so, I don't mind taking once awhile...

Briefly, Lui Char is a Hakka comfort food of rice, grains and chopped greens...
Can be eaten with Yong Tau Foo and a green herbal mint or ground green tea...
We ordered a small rice portion...
She wanted brown rice while I opted for white rice...
It should be the other way round, right?
The rice is embedded beneath the fried peanuts, chopped long beans,
cabbage, spinach and preserved radish.
For sidekicks, we ordered two Tau foo and some fried chicken..
If I am not mistaken, the fried chicken are marinated with fermented beancurd pieces...
Some like to mix the soup and the rice together, making it soggy...
As for me, I like the dry version and sip the soup every now and then...
Our Hakka meal which cost RM19...
Nice and sort-of-healthy, right? :)

  5. Probably my ancestors were not authentic Hakka cos my grandparents had never prepared any Lui Char for us in any of the meals before. The lui char dishes looks very simple.
