Prepare Your Car For The Perfect Family Road Trip

Whether you’re planning for a weekend away, or already thinking about your next summer vacation, a road trip with the kids can be great fun. It’s a great way to experience a more personal vacation. You’ll have a lot of time together as a group, and you won’t need to rush from one event or activity to the next. Instead, you can take your time and take moments to enjoy the little details that make a family vacation wonderful. Of course, if you’re going to do this, you need to make sure that you have the car ready for the road.

There’s actually quite a lot to think about before you take a road trip. There are a few decisions you need to make, and of course, it’s worth thinking about what to pack. But let’s start by considering an important question.

Should You Take Your Own Car?

This might seem like an odd question, but it’s actually something that you should consider. You might be driving from New York to Orlando on a trip with the kids. If you are taking on a journey like this, you should consider the impact it has on your vehicle. First, think about depreciation. If you are driving this far regularly, you can bet that your car is going to fall in value a lot faster than you would hope. If you’re still hoping to sell your car one day for a decent price, you might want to avoid this type of use. As well as this, you may find that your car isn’t the best when it comes to conserving fuel. If you hire one, you might be able to get something like a hybrid. That could be a fantastic option, and one that will mean fuel costs on your trip are kept as low as possible. You can find out more about saving money on fuel at MoneySavingExpert.com.

You should also think about whether your car will even be able to handle the type of journey that you are considering. If you are thinking about heading on a camping trip, it might involve some off-road travel. If that’s the case, you’re probably don’t want to take your little two-wheel drive family vehicle.

There are a few benefits of renting a car. First, you don’t have to worry about damage. If you get the right insurance coverage, it will mean you don’t need to obsessively worry about every pothole along the road. However, you will most likely need to keep it quite clean. This can be difficult when you have little ones. You also need to think about how far you can take the vehicle. Some rental companies won’t let you take the car across state lines. Depending on the type of trip you are planning, this could be an issue.

Making Sure Your Car Is Road Ready

There are a few checks you need to make before you take your car on a long trip. Let’s start by making sure that you are doing some the basic checks. For instance, tire pressure. It’s crucial that your tires are full. Underinflated tires will impact the level of grip that you have on the road and will make it difficult to keep the car under control. This is the last thing you want when you have kids in the car.

There are other basic checks too. For instance, you will want to make sure that oil and water levels are at the right amount. Any issues here will impact how well the car runs, and the last thing you want is to be left at the side of the road rather than off on a family adventure.

Of course, if you want to cover all the bases with problems that could develop with the vehicle, the best option would be to make sure that you are getting your car serviced. According to TelleTire.com, making sure that your car is well serviced is easy and affordable. It really is something that you should consider before you take a big trip in your car. That way, if there are any issues, you can get them fixed before they cause you a problem on the road.

Keep Things Entertaining

Depending on the age of your kids, you might find that they don’t respond brilliantly to long car journeys where they have nothing to do. However, you can fix that thanks to the wonders of modern technology. There are plenty of ways to keep kids entertained these days. For instance, you can fill an iPod up with all their favorite sing-along songs. If you don’t mind a rather loud and happy car journey, this could be a fantastic option. You might not have a built-in Aux kit for your car. But you can get a digital transmitter that will allow you to play your iPod through the car radio stereo. However, these days most cars do come with an Aux connection. Another option would be to buy a portable, battery-powered digital speaker. This a great way to make sure the kids are totally entertained.

Alternatively, you can consider getting a mini TV for the back of the seats. These mini screens come equipped with Blu-Ray players, and some can even be connected to Netflix. As such, you can always make sure that your children have something to watch on a road trip. This will avoid the painful and cliche cries of ‘are we there yet’ on a journey that could take hours.

Of course, you can also think about playing some of the typical games such as ‘I Spy,’ “counting cars’ and a ‘Yellow car.’ It should kill at least a couple of hours depending on the age of your children.

Planning For Food Trips

There are two ways to deal with food on the family road trip. Either, you can take it with you, or you can stop on the way to get some tasty snacks. The benefit of packing food, of course, is that you can keep things healthy. If you choose to purchase food on the road, you will be almost completely at the mercy of fast food restaurants. Now, the benefit of fast food is that it is quite cheap. But, if you take care to make sure that your kids eat well typically, this can be a shock to the system. You can easily make some sandwiches and other healthy snacks, keeping them in the cooler in the trunk of the car.

The only other thing to consider is where you’re going to stop to eat. Yes, you will need to plan stops for food. Eating in the car might sound like a smart move because it saves time. But, it can be quite distracting passing around sandwiches and other snacks. You don’t want to do this while you’re driving down the road.

You may want to think about looking at things that are easy to prepare for the car. For instance, you can get little snack packs that are easy to store and open for kids in the car. Mini sausages, for instance, could be a great snack for those long car journeys and are filling enough to make sure that your kids aren’t complaining they are hungry every few seconds.

Where Are You Going?

Regardless of how well you know the roads, you should make sure that you have a satnav for your car. Do not rely on your phone as there will be times when your phone goes out of signal. If this occurs, your sat nav map may stop working. At that point, you will struggle to find your way, and this could result in a long detour on an already extended journey. You don’t want that, and if you make sure you are using a sat nav system, you’ll be able to avoid it completely.

These systems are typically very cheap and affordable these days so you don’t have to worry about another cost that will be added onto this family trip.

Keeping Your Car Safe

Finally, do make sure that you are packing everything you need to keep you and your family safe. You should have a survival kit in the trunk of your car or even underneath one of your seats. If the weather turns and you get stuck in your car, it’s useful to have everything you need to stay safe for a couple of hours or even a couple of days. This probably sounds like crazy levels of preparation, but it’s always going to seem crazy until you find yourself in that situation.

On top of that, you do want to make sure that you have sun protectors across the windows. UV light can be incredibly dangerous to children, and if you don’t have a level of protection, the windows of a car can actually magnify the impact of these rays. You can learn more about this on NYTimes.com.

Finally, do make sure that if you are traveling in a rough season of weather, you have a few blankets and warm clothes in the back in case you do get stranded in your vehicle.

We hope this advice helps you plan everything you need for a fantastic road trip with the family. Check out this site Travel.USNews.com for more info on where to go.

10 Steps For Giving Your Yard The Perfect Spring Clean

The first glimpses of warm weather are finally here, which means you can start looking ahead to the summer and spending time outdoors. If your spring cleaning focus has been on the inside of your home, then perhaps it’s time to shift that focus to the outside. Your yard needs as much TLC as the rest of your property, so a spring clean can help take care of those jobs that have been building up over the winter months.

Are you ready to overhaul your yard or garden? Follow these ten steps for giving your yard the perfect spring clean.

1. Clear all the debris

It’s surprising how much debris can accumulate over the winter months. The wind and rain can bring all sorts of mess into your yard that you might not start to notice until you’re ready to give it a clean. Clear any obvious trash from your yard and keep an eye out for glass and other items that may be hidden in the grass. If items can be recycled, take them to your nearest center or dispose of them safely.

2. Get the rake out

As well as all the debris that can end up in your yard, fallen leaves and twigs are also likely to be found all over. Get a rake and start clearing up all of the old leaves to help restore your yard to order once more. There are many things you can do with leaves to feed your soil and plants, while your local council might also have schemes in place for collecting leaves.

3. Get weeding

Weeds are unsightly visitors in your yard and can be time-consuming to eliminate. You can spend hours on your hands and knees collecting weeds, or you could look for other solutions to make the de-weeding process quicker. You can find out more about weed razors that will help you clear out your pond, while weed killers are also worth using to prevent weeds from returning. Getting rid of your weeds will make it much easier to grow flowers and plants in your yard and give it a much neater look.

4. Get your lawn in order

If you haven’t been caring for your lawn as much as you should recently, it might not be looking its best. Bring your lawn back to life by taking care of the soil and adding a seed mix to your lawn. If you can’t be bothered with the hassle, you could install an artificial lawn instead that requires little maintenance and means your lawn stays fresh looking all year round.

5. Trim your hedges and trees

Trees and hedges left alone over the winter can start to look unkempt by the time the spring light starts shining. Help improve their appearance by tackling the bits that are within easy reach, and hire a professional gardener to take care of the rest.

6. Begin planting

Now you can start giving some thought to what you want to plant this spring. Whether you want to plant flowers this spring, or plants or vegetables, take a look at what you should be planting at this time of year to make the most of the conditions. Putting in the hard work now will mean that your garden is in bloom by the summer, leaving you with some beautiful plants and flowers to enjoy during the warmer months.

7. Clean your decking

If you have decking or a patio, now is a good time to get them clean so that you’re ready to enjoy spending time outside in the sun. A jet washer is one of the best tools you can use to clean stubborn stains and dirt from decking and tiles, and you’ll be surprised at the results you can achieve. You can either purchase a power washer or rent one - if you’re only going to be using it once a year then renting one for the day might be the most affordable option for you.

8. Repair any damage

Now is a good time to check your fence for damage. If the winter was a harsh one where you are, then you might find that your fence has suffered a bit because of the weather. Check through your fencing for any gaps or loose parts that need fixing up. Repair any damage to stop any unwanted visitors getting in as well as to stop your own pets or children from getting out. You should also check your shed for any signs of damage and to make sure the lock remains secure.

9. Add a fresh coat of paint

A fresh coat of paint can work wonders, giving your yard a fresh look that will make everything look refreshed and new. Painting your fence or shed can help extend the life of the wood, and erase the signs of a harsh winter that can make the wood like tired and worn. Choose a dry day, put on some tunes and get the the family involved to make the process much quicker.

10. Keep up the maintenance

Now that you’ve taken care of the essentials, you need to stay on top of things to make sure your garden or yard stays in great condition for the summer. Make a schedule of when your plants and flowers need feeding during the week, and try to spend some time on the weekend tackling the bigger jobs like cutting the grass or weeding. If you haven’t got the time to commit to maintaining your yard, then you might want to think about hiring a gardener to take care of it for you. Basic yard work is a great way for your kids to earn their allowance, so you could always ask them to tackle the watering and other simple jobs to help keep things in order.

With your spring clean out of the way, you can start thinking about getting your yard ready for summer entertaining. Updating your decor or investing in some new garden furniture is a great way to overhaul your backyard ready for a summer of fun and relaxation.

Seafood At Kuromon Ichiba Market, Osaka

ON OUR SECOND FREE N EASY DAY...

We went to Kuromon Ichiba Market, it is really an eye opener for me, I seem to be fascinated with almost everything I saw there.  Food.... Seafood... and their fantastic prices.  Imagine eating two slices of melon for 1,000 yen...*RM37*!!  Two slices only!  But then... one bite on the fruit, I am so WOW by it!  So super juicy that we were not really biting on them!  Alright, very expensive but it is worth trying them out... unfortunately I did not take a picture of them.... I thought it would be like melon.. a normal melon... LOL..

One must go to this market, not to be missed, just eat and don't start to convert... LOL...

Street Food In Osaka

IT IS ALL ABOUT EATING during our three days on our own.... Yes, we have to share our food otherwise we could not stomach so much in a day... Here are some of the food we tasted within a couple of hours while we walked...
Cannot remember the name of the place...
Where there is food we stopped to take a look...

This is often seen in many places... even at my own own city, Ipoh...
Not sure what this is....
We tried this...
among a few others which my camera did not take...
Just wanna put into my mouth instead..
Camera did not eat first at most times now...
Our place for lunch!
What does it write here?
As usual Ramen for me...
With or without eggs...
Each bowl of Ramen normally cost around 700 to 800 yen...
Which is equivalent to around RM30..
And rice with minced pork...
Side dish is also a must...
And after that, street food again....
Desserts is not left out too!
 Cannot remember how much already...
But I know it is not cheap... LOL....
Anyway, just eat and enjoy!!

5 Things to Do During Your Trip to Virginia

Virginia is one of America’s most historic states and helps make up the thirteen original colonies, so it’s a place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. From the famous sites and historic landmarks to the flourishing cuisine, there is something for everyone – no matter what you’re interested in. You won’t be short of attractions to see and things to do in Virginia, but here are five unmissable items for your itinerary.

Williamsburg Historic District

Whether or not you’re interested in American history, you’ll want to go back in time to the historic district in Williamsburg, if only for the beauty of the reconstructed architecture. Colonial Williamsburg is a living-history museum standing as an interpretation of a colonial American city. The exhibit contains dozens of restored and recreated buildings, costumed actors reliving the eve of the American Revolutionary War, and the famous Governor’s Palace. Colonial Williamsburg is one of the largest history projects in the nation and a popular tourist attraction. It is also part of the Historic Triangle of Virginia, which includes Jamestown and Yorktown, all of which are linked by the Colonial Parkway

The Skyline Drive

If you’re travelling by car, you won’t want to miss the Skyline Drive, a 105-mile stretch of road that runs the entire length of Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. If you don’t want to drive, you can also view the stunning skyline on horseback or by cycling the trail. Bear in mind that the Skyline Drive is usually busiest in fall, when people come out to see the wildlife (including deer, black bears and turkeys) and go leaf peeping the popular pastime that consists of spotting fall foliage. The road is often closed in the winter due to ice and storms.

Escape Room

Escape rooms are popping up all over the world at the moment, and there are usually several in major U.S. cities. If you like the sound of cracking codes, solving clues and working through puzzles to break out of a fictional “locked room”, then book an Escape Room Richmond. You can play with friends, as a couple or with a group of strangers, and you can explore Richmond, a thriving city in Virginia’s capital, while you’re there.

Busch Gardens

Another Williamsburg attraction, Busch Gardens is a Europe-themed amusement park with rides, roller coasters and SeaWorld entertainment. Touted as the world’s most beautiful theme park, Busch Gardens has a delightfully green, leafy atmosphere. There are plenty of events and attractions for kids, as well as water rides, baby-friendly play areas and delicious eateries for the whole family.

Shenandoah National Park

If you love the great outdoors, Shenandoah National Park is a must-see. Stretching along the Blue Ridge Mountains, the forested park is home to wetlands, waterfalls, rocky peaks and many endangered species including the elusive black bear. The park has over 500 miles of trails, including a 101-mile section of the famous Appalachian Trail, so it is a haven for hikers as well all-round nature lovers.

Night Scene At Hotel Sunroute, Osaka

NIGHT TIME IN OSAKA...

We walked practically the whole day... I mean we were out from the hotel almost the whole day and evening...  Walking, taking subways, walking.... well, I really don't mind if the weather is cooling.  No sweat and I love the cold weather, the North Face jacket keeps me warmth most of the time.  No regrets investing in one.... LOL...
This is the hotel we stayed...
Very convenient, though a bit small but clean and comfy...
Enough space to put our suitcases and walk just two steps to the bathroom...
LOL...
One night cost around RM400 plus minus..
I wouldn't mind coming back to this hotel again next time...
Along the same row of the hotel....

Yes, this is near our hotel.....
Looking for food....
Saw a super long queue of people waiting for their bowl of Ramen at Inchiran...
No, I am not a patient one... the queue is really too long!
Was told that this is the main icon here in Osaka...
Glico!
Must never leave Osaka without doing this!
Daytime once....
And night time once again!
LOL....
