The Nostalgic Feel At Hoong Tho, Old Town Ipoh

I FIRST HEARD AND CAME TO THIS SHOP CALLED HOONG THO SINCE THE 1970ss.. and today the shop is still standing steadily in the heart of old town, Ipoh.  Oldies like me and those born earlier, should know that this shop was once a popular spot for weddings held during yesteryears.  Until today Hoong Tho is still serving their nostalgic dishes though it is not surprising that the cooks have change hands during these few decades.  Nevertheless, Hoong Tho still displays a traditional kind of feeling that upon entering, it reminds us of the golden and sweet memories during my younger days....

It has been quite some time since I last came, the shop has been restored and refurnished to make it look more appealing while the nostalgic feel is still there...
Let's see... what does it say here?
Help me somebody!

And about the food..... Since there were only two of us, we did not order lavishly though my eyes as usual raved for more food on the table of course...
One must not miss out their Koay Teow in egg gravy and fish paste aka Yue Wat
It is their signature dish...
And their Sang Mee too...
We did not order the Big Prawns to go with that... so we ordered the normal fried one...

And not to be missed.. their Crispy Fried Wanton with the sweet sauce....
And four giant dumplings... aka.. Sui Kau...
Food for the Two Of Us....
We finished them all except for a bit of noodles which we packet home for dinner....
For this meal, the price is around RM26 or so...
Next time we must go in a bigger group...
I heard their fried rice is also "something-not-to-be-missed"
On the way out, there was a very nice fragrance in the air...
Yes, we bought home a Jackfruit cake from them...
RM13 for at least half a pound..
Too bad no picture...
We totally forgot about taking one and
I blame it on the Strong Fragrance of the Jackfuit!

  5. Gosh! Haven't set foot in this shop for ages. When I was a kid, we used to have dinner here with my maternal grandmother. One of the dishes I remembered ordering was oyster sauce chicken wings. Then later, when I was in primary school, I remember my paternal grandfather taking me to this shop for lunches. As he knew my favourite dish was the "ee fu wan ton", he would always order that for me.

    2. Hahaha, yes, something like that. Although, with the dishes you ordered, I wonder how to achieve that, those are not particularly fragrant dishes, the sui kau soup and noodles.... :P
