Takeaway Giant Bun Curry Prawns From Soo Har Yee Restaurant, Ipoh

ON ANOTHER LAZY EVENING, we ordered food again, this time from Beggar's Restaurant aka Soo Har Yee, direct translation.

This restaurant is famous for the Beggar's chicken (made from herbs) but I did not order that.  Another signature dish is their Curry Bread.  There are three options we can choose from, the fillings can be either curry chicken, sweet sour prawns or crabs.  We chose prawns and besides this dish, we ordered another two more.... dishes which I could not cook at home, of course... LOL...

The food were delivered by the restaurant staff, not by Grab or Foodpanda and no delivery charges since the cost came to around RM116.  This was our dinner on that rainy evening....

I was surprised to see the big bun in a big nice box....
The bun was still warm and soft...
Upon opening....
I am not a good food blogger....
When we started "tearing" up the bun, I forgot to take pictures of the fillings!
That should be the most important part, right?
Compared to the two other dishes, doesn't the bun look giantic?
Braised yam with pork... RM25
This is salted egg chicken..... RM10 I think....
There are 11 big prawns inside the Big Bun... RM76
I think it is really worth ordering... LOL...
We finished the whole bun except for the bottom layer...
Cos we had white rice too....
Well, it was certainly a Big Dinner for us...
We thought of ordering this Giant Bun once again...
Maybe the next time with crabs...
I make sure that I will get my camera ready!!

  1. Yes, what does the filling look like? I love those curry buns, used to enjoy the ones in Penang but that's a long long time ago. They had it here but they wrapped the curry inside with cling wrap so I never went back for more - dunno safe or not, the plastic cooked inside the bun.

  2. Good price for all the food. I guess with hands occupied with peeling the prawns so no hands to take photos.

  3. I miss the big bun from this restaurant but this place too far from my place. Making me hungry now. All 3 dishes also I like.

  4. Prawns are easier to eat than crabs. Yummy, I miss that.

  5. Wow such a huge bun! The braised yam with pork must be very flavourful too.

My White Elephant

WHITE ELEPHANT.... still laying on my table for two months I think....   My friend groomer is not free these days, my poor Labby badly needs her hair cut and leaving no choice, I ordered the grooming shaver online.  I thought it would be easy to install the shaver to the appliance and till today, I am still at my wits end on how it is fixed.  My friend gave me a tip... check out the Youtube, she said.  Yeah, how come I did not think of that.....  But till today, I have not even touched it and my poor furry member will have to wait till this Mama has her right mood to do it.   My own hair also badly needs a hair cut and with the high Covid cases each day, I guess I have to tolerate for another month with my unruly hair..... or perhaps I can make use of this clipper on myself before I use it on my furry member!  LOL.... Crazy me! Still standing nicely on the table....  Still looking at the gadgets.... and not doing anything about them... I am happy with this dish....  Better looking afte

Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner At San Jose 2022

TABLE FOR FOUR... We had our own reunion Chinese New Year dinner on Monday evening.... we made a simple one, just hot pot at home.  All we have to do is to clean the vegetables, get everything defrosted... and the hot pot boiling with a packet of seasoning.  They sell a lot of hot pot seasoning over here, from tomato soup to shrimp and chicken soup, I just threw in the whole packet of paste.  No doubt not so healthy but it is so easily done....  As usual, Chinese New Year won't be CNY without a plate of Loe Sang...  No crackers so I put in a few pieces of Tacos... LOL... Most important is the sauce....  The apricot, plum sauce and honey makes it right.... And our dishes for the evening..... We ate too much shrimps the day before so we omitted for this evening.... Simple and yet satisfying meal for our Reunion Dinner....

Two Dishes One Soup Dinner

AUNTIE'S SIMPLE COOKING... for dinner on one evening.... Defrosted a piece of cod, my last piece in the freezer besides another few more pieces of other types of fish.  I think I consume the most fish this year, never bought so many types of fish before.  Maybe it is made easier for me this year cos of the online shopping at Gracious, cleaned, vacuumed and free delivery above RM50.   My last piece of cod.... A plate of greens called Yau Mak...  Not so sure what it is called in English And chicken herbal soup....  My complete meal for one evening....  As usual, I do not take much rice... Or perhaps I did not take rice at all for this meal....  LOL...
