Hainanese Food At Cathay Restaurant, Ipoh

BRUNCH DELIGHTS... with my friends, the three of us went to Cathay Restaurant again, this time we wanted to try out their chicken chop.  We decided to go after 10.30am so that my appetite cravings are stronger around that time.  LOL... I did not take anything for breakfast, except a glass of barley green.  So by the time we reached the place, I was famished by then.

We ordered two sets of chicken chop and one set of French toast, Hainanese styled.  While eating the chef came out to talk to us cos one of my friends mentioned he was from Teluk Intan.  And both of them started talking about history of the town, etc etc.... and the chef himself told us that he started cooking at the age of 12 and he has been cooking for 66 years.  Yes, he is almost 80 now and if we want authentic food, we better come more often before he really retires for good.  LOL...
Their specialty French Toast was served first.....
This cost around RM5.50 or so....
Two sets of chicken chops RM13.90 each....
Remember, this is a coffeeshop not a cafe...
The presentation is like that... la...
I like the taste of the chicken chop...
The sauce is a bit diluted... but overall, it is nice...
Since the cook was talking to us, we asked him for more choices of food...
We ended up ordering Hainan noodles... RM5.50
It reminded me of noodles Arthur Wee used to post up...
This might look unimpressive...
surprisingly the taste is much better than the looks of it...

  1. yummy hainanese chicken chop! the noodles look plain, but doesn't matter if it is tasty. RM5.50 for a plate of noodles is cheap.

  2. Not quite like our Foochow fried noodles but I bet it tastes good! Not crazy about Hainanese pork chop - will eat but give me really good Hainanese chicken rice anytime! I love their curry rice too!!!

  5. What is a Hainanese style French Toast? I had eaten Hainanese chicken chop before, does not really like it as the tomato sauce is too overpowering for me.
