Lunch At Swee Garden, Nibong Tebal

AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS REST, we went back to Ipoh.  On the way back, we stopped for lunch at Nibong Tebal.  Using Waze and a couple of wrong turns, we managed to get to Swee Garden restaurant.  By then it was lunch time and the place was full with patrons.

We sat down with one lady and a young man, they were almost going to finish their meal.  In the midst of waiting, I struck up a conversation with the lady, starting with where they were from.... and to my amazement, the lady was so friendly or should I say, chatty.... she told us a lot about herself and the son who was sitting beside her.  The son was quiet but the mother was so dynamite speaking... LOL... I really never met such a lady before and it was like talking to old friends after just like fifteen minutes or so.  During that short time, I have know a lot about her.... not vice versa... anyway, all I can say is that she is the type of lady who makes you feel at home....

We opted for wanton noodles instead of rice....
Sweet potato leaves with less spicy sauce....
The steamed fish slices were nicely done...
I noticed that this dish was on the table, ordered by the lady earlier...
And it looked kind of nice... yes, it was a good choice...
And the bill came to around RM50 plus for the 3 dishes...

Free Lunch At Shui Yuan, Nibong Tebal

ON THE WAY BACK TO HOME SWEET HOME IPOH, we stopped over at Nibong Tebal to have our lunch.  We wanted to buy some "char kueh" dumplings but they were all finished by the time we arrived.  Using Waze, we found our way to this shop for a light lunch.  Since there were only two of us, we did not order their famous crispy pork knuckle, big enough to feed four or five persons.

Besides their famous crispy pork knuckle, they have steamed octopus which I heard is also popular... but this time round, we did not order the above, we settled for something not-so-cholesterol-ist!  :)
We had Omelette fried with Bitter Gourd instead...
Kangkung with slightly spicy shrimps...
And this dish was recommended....
Steamed Stingray Teochiew style....
Like the sauce... sourish and a bit spicy...
Makes the fish more appetizing...
For these three dishes, I do not know the price...  hahahahaa
We had our free lunch because someone related came in and had lunch too...
And he settled the bill for us while we were still eating...
Thankful....
Here is the address of the place...
Never know, you might get a free lunch too if you happen to go there...
hahahahaa...

Stuck At Nibong Tebal

Started on our journey up north this morning at around 11am... And the journey was smooth sailing until one km from Nibong Tebal... The one kilometer felt like ten kilometers, snail crawling at the highway.  From then to the toll, it took us an hour I guess... and we heard that one lorry overturned and  the highway from NB was closed... Every vehicle had to detour to Nibong Tebal and had to use the old trunk road ....
Crawling traffic.....
I was very hungry by the time we passed the toll and into the old trunk road in NB...
We had to stop here for lunch to prevent my tummy from growling further....
After all, it was pass 2pm already!
Any dish on the wall looks yummy to me!
And we ordered these.... Honey pai kwat wong.... No bones just meat.....
Sambal tapioca leaves with three prawns....
And their special lemongrass fish head soup which was so up to my standard...
Hahhhaaaa....
And this "captain" is the one who recommended the dishes.... And served us as well...
Sat down to talk to us too... and the bill came to RM36 after much talking... Hahahaa....
After our lunch, we proceeded with our journey and reached Penang around 4pm!
Phewwww......

Second Bridge Penang And Teochew Cendol

After the scrumptious lunch in Nibong Tebal, we proceeded on with our journey to Penang Island. For the first time, we took the New Bridge and it led us to Batu Maung...
The toll that led us to the new bridge....
Called The Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah
or Penang Second Bridge as it is commonly known...
Surprisingly it was very quiet on a weekday....
a great contrast compared to the first Penang bridge...
Not a car in sight.....
I heard it was filled with 60,000 people just last Sunday Marathon...
I heard the toll rate for this bridge is more....  a distance of 42 KM?
Reaching Penang, we went to Prangin Mall to get something done....
And while we were down, we chanced upon this place...
They opened a branch here in the mall?
At least we don't have to queue up in the hot sun...
Penang Famous Cendol.....
One bowl cost RM3.90
Slightly more than the Penang Road.....
I don't mind paying a bit more to enjoy this cooling drink here......
Nice scenery... comfortable and chilling...
COOL!!

Famous Swee Garden In Nibong Tebal

Started the journey up north this time around noon and at the last minute, we decided to have our lunch in Nibong Tebal instead of Penang Island.  We reached there around 1pm... just in time to join in the crowd for lunch.....
From the toll we turned left to Nibong Tebal....
It has been few years ago since I last visited Nibong Tebal...
This bridge was not reconstructed yet as far as I can remember....
So I quickly take a picture of it....
Approaching nearer.....
And very near now... Looks like a roller coaster....
After some turnings here and there, we managed to locate this landmark.....
Maybank.... and the shop we were looking for was just behind....
Swee Garden.....
Famous for their seafood and pork knuckles!
There was a crowd there already....
Lunch time.... very right "timing" for us...
And eventually we waited around half an hour for the food to arrive...
Ordered a Hokkien char koay teow with mihun mixed..
Fresh giant clams... Lala.....
Bouncing flesh...
Sambal Kangkung.... a bit too oily but very tasty....
And this is Siakap in Thai Sauce...
Reminded me of Assam Fish my mom used to make....
And the total cost came to RM52....
